Instructional Designer / Writer - Mumbai - Surround School

Surround School is a start-up company planning to offer e-learning solutions for high school and junior college students in the area of science and technology. This is a unique concept that explains science and technology topics in an easy-to-understand manner following a hands-on, activity oriented and collaborative approach to learning. Founded by a technology and management consultant (www.downstreamupside.com) this start up has on board some distinguished people from academia as its advisors.

Position: Instructional Designer / Writer [1 position]

Location: Mumbai, open to Work-from-home arrangement

Qualification: Graduate in Science/Engineering/Computers (B.Sc/M.Sc/B.E./MCA or equivalent degrees). The person should have knowledge of instructional design and writing practices.

Experience: 1-5 years of relevant experience as described in the work description above.

We are looking for an instructional designer who will take on the responsibility for the following:

• Work with Subject Matter Experts to identify what students need to learn.
• Research information about the subject using the web.
• Develop objectives and ensure content matches those objectives.
• Revise and rewrite content to shape it for learning needs.
• Adapt instructional materials created for one format to another format (usually this is adapting materials from face-to-face to e-learning)
• Structure assignments, activities and projects for student learning.
• Develop assessments

Since this is a start-up, we are looking for a “partner” and not just an “employee”. The individual must be self-motivated and have the drive and ability to work independently with aggressive deadlines. An eye for detail and passion for quality is critical.

We are strong believers in a deliverables-based style of working – thus, the work location and hours are flexible as long as deliverables are of the highest quality and targets and deadlines are met.

Skills Required:
The candidate should possess the following:

• Have good command of the English Language both verbal and written
• Be familiar with writing styles for young adults (12-18 age group)
• Be skilled in using Microsoft Office suite (especially Microsoft Word)
